I have always loved Fireworks. So pretty and sparkly and just awesome. My kids have enjoyed them from a young age too (once we got past the big booms). Even pictures of fireworks are pretty to look at, so we made some fireworks of our own!

Microwave Puffy Paint Ingredients
- All-Purpose Flour
- Baking Powder
- Salt
- Water
- Food Coloring
- Very Fine Glitter
- Squeezy Bottles
Mixing Up Microwave Puffy Paint
Combine 1 cup of flour, 3 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt with enough water to make it the consistency of pancake batter.
Divide into bowls and color as desired. We were going patriotic, so we chose red, blue, and gold.
I put our colors in squeezy condiment bottles, so they would be fairly mess free plus extra fine motor work!
The girls loved making their fireworks with the squeeze bottles.
For a that extra firework sparkle we added some very fine glitter (kindly donated by CraftProjectIdeas.com).
Once your fireworks are sparkly, pop them into the microwave for 30-45 seconds. If the paint is thick it takes a bit longer, but I would start with a short time and work up to more, so you don't burn the paintings.
Then dump off the extra glitter and enjoy your boom free fireworks!
E was fascinated by the puffiness. He had to touch them all!
And here are a few of our glittering masterpieces! We must have made a total of 30 pictures before we ran out of paint (just one batch)!
Now as I am writing this up I am wondering how safe it really was to put glitter in the microwave. Obviously my microwave survived, so the extra fine glitter seems to be okay. I wouldn't use the large glitter for sure, and if you would rather not use store bought glitter you can make your own with salt (click here for recipe) or just go without! You will still get fun, puffy fireworks!
