These Spice Painted Turkeys Smell like Thanksgiving

These Spice Painted Turkeys Smell like Thanksgiving

Turkey, mashed potatoes, rolls, and pie, Thanksgiving definitely has a scent. Kids can enjoy learning about some of those scents by making this sensory craft, Thanksgiving Spice Turkeys.

Spice Turkey Crafts are a wonderful Thanksgiving sensory project.

Supplies for Spice Turkey Craft

Construction Paper in fall colors (brown, red, orange, yellow, and green)
Scissors
Paintbrushes
Various Thanksgiving Spices (thyme, rosemary, bay leaf, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, etc.)

Creating Sensory Thanksgiving Turkeys

Start by cutting out several feather shapes from various fall colored pieces of paper. Place some glue on a disposable plate (or whatever you have available) and allow the kids to paint glue on the feathers.

After they added some glue, they can choose a spice to sprinkle on that feather. Then repeat with all the feathers they want to add to their turkey.

While the kids are working on the feathers, cut out turkey shaped bodies from brown construction paper. They don't have to be perfect. I folded the paper and cut a bubbly looking bowling pin to make some fat turkey bodies.

You can also cut a red squiggle for a wattle and a little yellow or orange triangle for the beak. The kids can add these and some fun eyeball stickers!

After the turkeys have faces, they need feathers! Hopefully, the glue on the spices has had a chance to dry; if not, you might want to take a break before finishing.

Once the glue is dry, they kids can glue the new, smelly feather to the back of their turkey to give it a colorful, sensory tail.

Now, let the whole turkey dry. Once dry, you have a fun, fall craft that smells of Thanksgiving! My kids loved exploring all the scents of the herbs.
