Poppin's Book Nook - To the Kitchen for Pancakes

Poppin's Book Nook - To the Kitchen for Pancakes

This months Poppin's Book Nook theme is To the Kitchen!

The kitchen is definitely one of my kids favorite places to be, but it gets pretty hectic with all the extra hands! Instead of just not teaching them to cook I try to keep the chaos down and my sanity intact by using the same method I did last year!  Of course I let them all help this time which means pretty much zero photos as I had to keep little hands away from hot things!

Witha  theme like To the Kitchen, I wasn't sure what kind of book we would end up with when we headed to the library. I guess I figured we might find an interesting cook book, but instead my little guy came up with this Eric Carle book, Pancakes, Pancakes!

Summary of Pancakes, Pancakes!

The barnyard rooster crows to tell Jack it's time to get up. It's very early in the morning-and Jack is so hungry that what he really wants is a large pancake for breakfast. But first, Jack's mother needs flour from the mill, an egg from the black hen, milk from the spotted cow, and butter churned from fresh cream. Will it ever be time for breakfast and that large pancake?

I had never heard of this book, and since it is my son's favorite breakfast (which he requests daily), I thought it would be a good book for us! The book itself goes through the process of obtaining ingredients for a pancake.

Gather Ingredients to Make Pancakes

We have done some fun activities that fit in this book perfectly! These include Making Your Own Butter and "Milking Cows"

Both of these are a lot of fun for little ones and help them understand a little better where some of our food comes from!

Our Pancakes, Pancakes Activity

We didn't do anything specific to go with this book other then make pancakes! I did make the kids try them with strawberry jam like Jack did in the book. Always good to get them to try new things!

They all liked the strawberry jam on the first pancake, but opted for their typical nutella on their second.

As always, Enchanted Homeschooling Mom has a wonderful, free lapbook printable to go with this months theme of "To the Kitchen." Check it out for more learning fun!
