Next to pumpkins, corn may be one of the most recognized types of produce related to fall. So what better way to celebrate fall than some process art with corn!
Supplies for Painting with Corn
- Corn on the cob (It is better if you can get ahold of fresh corn in the husk!)
- Roll of brown paper
- Acrylic or tempera paint in fall colors
How to Paint with Corn
This part is simple since there isn't really a right way to paint with corn. This is ultimate process art!
This activity is best done outside where you can roll out a long piece of brown paper for painting.
Squirt some fall colored paint on a palette of some sort. You can use any colors that remind you of fall; we started with red, orange, and yellow (brown and green were added later).
Now the kids can go to town rolling the corn, stamping the corn, or using the corn as a brush however they can imagine.
Now, if you happened to find corn in the husk, you also have some additional paint brush options. The husk itself can be a fun brush as can the corn silk.
Of course since this is process art, the kids don't need to be entirely restricted to the corn. Mine certainly didn't! They fulling enjoyed immersing themselves in this fall painting project!
Eventually they will grow bored with the mess, and you will have your corn painting. Just leave it to dry before deciding what to do with it next, maybe make a 'welcome fall' banner or a colorful table runner.
No matter what you decide to do with the final project, the kids are sure to enjoy the experience of painting with corn!
